30 cars of unique historic value will take part in the premiere of the 1000 Miglia Warm Up Austria from 26 to 29 September 2024. The event has already started with technical scrutineering and test drives on the legendary Salzburgring.

Salzburgring, 26 September 2024 – Today, Thursday, 60 participants had to pass the first test at the Salzburgring. During the technical checks, the 1000 Miglia’s “Commissari tecnici” carefully checked whether the 30 registered vehicles complied with the regulations. Many of these cars are a rare sight in Austria – the years of manufacture of the participating cars span across a period of half a decade! The two oldest cars, an Alfa Romeo 6C 17500 SS Zagato and a Lancia Lambda Torpedo 218, date back to 1929. The youngest model is a 1979 Ferrari 308 GTS.

Cars with history
A total of twelve different brands are represented, including the most illustrious sports car brands of all time, such as Ferrari, Jaguar and Porsche. But a 1958 Austin-Healey is also exciting, as is the sporty Healey Silverstone. The Jaguar E-Type from the first generation was revolutionary, while a Jaguar XK150 SE has Le Mans in its genes. The Triumph TR3 Sport with the distinctive ‘wide mouth’ from 1957 and the BMW microcar with the name ‘600’, the legitimate successor to the better-known Isetta, also impress with their looks. For those who prefer something a little bigger, the Daimler DB18 is highly recommended. And in the home of Porsche, perhaps the brand’s most iconic series, a 356, should not be missing from the convoy of the 1000 Miglia Warm Up Austria.

Like their cars, the participants also come from all over the world, however most of the 1000 Miglia entrants come from Italy. They will all be competing not only for the first victory and the associated invitation to the 2025 1000 Miglia in Italy, but also for coveted prizes in the ‘Ladies’ and ‘Average Time Trials’ categories.
Porsche Classic
In addition to the 30 vehicles participating in the 1000 Miglia Warm Up Austria, ten more cars will take on the 600-kilometre route, which leads from Salzburg over the Grossglockner to Mittersill and over the Salzkammergut back to the festival city. In the Porsche Classic, accompanied by the brand-new Porsche Macan, classic and new Porsche cars will compete in their own category.

Alberto Piantoni, CEO 1000 Miglia Srl:
“The 1000 Miglia Warm Up Austria represents an important step in the internationalization project undertaken by our Red Arrow. The incredibly striking scenery of this territory, the renowned and excellent local hospitality and the unique know-how of the 1000 Miglia will be the foundations of this new adventure that we are convinced will become one of the most coveted events of the season for fans.
We hope that, over the next few years, the event that begins here today will arouse the same enthusiasm and participation that we find every year in Italy with the 1000 Miglia when millions of people gather along the roads to greet the passing competing cars. The premises are certainly excellent, on our part we will provide all the support necessary to bring the essence of the 1000 Miglia style sporting competition to these unique areas.”

Dr Helmut Eggert, Managing Director of Porsche Österreich:
“It is a special honour for us that with the 1000 Miglia Warm Up Austria – one of the most renowned and well-known classic events in the world, is coming to the SalzburgerLand and the city of Mozart for the first time. The 1000 Miglia impressively cultivates a fascination for the cultural heritage of the automobile and inspires its many fans every year. This is something it shares with the Porsche sports car brand, which also uniquely combines tradition and innovation in its vehicles. It was therefore a matter of course for us to accompany and support the 1000 Miglia in a CO2-neutral way, not only with the historic Porsche Challenge but also with the latest fully electric Porsche models.”
