This week, from 26 to 29 September 2024, the classic car event 1000 Miglia Warm Up Austria will make its debut in and around the SalzburgerLand.

Salzburg, 24 September 2024 – A legendary racetrack, the highest mountain in Austria and the European Capital of Culture 2024 – the route of the first edition of the 1000 Miglia Warm Up Austria has it all, including the grand finale on Saturday afternoon at Residenzplatz (starting at 1:30 p.m.) in the old town of Salzburg. Spectators can cheer on the participants of the regularity race along the entire route and enjoy rare vintage cars in the style of the legendary Italian classic “1000 Miglia”.
The event begins on Thursday, 26 September at 4:00 p.m. with accreditations, technical checks and the first test drives at the Salzburgring, where the participants will also be able to take a lap around the legendary racetrack.

Route on Friday, 27 September 2024
The first opportunity to do so is at the official start of the 1000 Miglia Warm Up Austria in Hof bei Salzburg. Participants will start the first stage from Arabella Jagdhof Resort on the shores of lake Fuschl at 9:00 a.m. The first stopover for participants will be at the Hans-Peter Porsche Traumwerk in Anger, just across the German border. The first vehicles are expected at the museum from 10:00 a.m. After a coffee break, the convoy will head towards the majestic peaks and glaciers of the Hohe Tauern National Park. The spectacular and demanding Grossglockner Hochalpenstrasse then takes drivers to the highest point of the route, where lunch will be served at 1 p.m. Despite the storms and snowfalls of recent weeks, there are currently no restrictions on the route.
The longest section of the regularity follows after the stop at the Grossglockner with the passage down to Lienz, past Bruck Castle, on to the finish of the first stage in Pinzgau, where the 1000 Miglia Warm Up Austria will be welcomed at Mittersill town square from 4:45 p.m.

Route on Saturday, 28 September 2024
After an overnight stay at the Hotel Schloss Mittersill, the drivers will set off from the Mittersill Nationalpark Centre on Saturday morning (from 8:00 a.m.) in the direction of Zell am See (stamp control from 8:30 a.m. at the town square). From Lake Zell, the route continues to Lake Wolfgang, where the next stop is scheduled for 12:00 noon at the idyllic lakeside promenade in St. Gilgen. From the Salzkammergut, the convoy will finally return to the provincial capital of Salzburg, where the participants will arrive in the old town (Mozartplatz) from 1:30 p.m. and park their vehicles in front of Salzburg’s majestic cathedral on the Residenzplatz. Until around 4 p.m., the 1000 Miglia cars will be presented to the public there with free admission and in a magnificent setting.

Procedure
The event will be held as a regularity race. A road book will dictate the route along with various tests that the participants will have to complete. In the time trials (32 in total), the participants have to complete a certain section of the route in a given time – not faster, but also not slower. The average speed tests (5) are even more demanding, where the route between two points should be driven at a predetermined average speed. Road traffic regulations apply throughout the entire route. In the end, the driving technique, precision and teamwork between drivers and co-drivers will determine the final result, which will be announced for the participants of the first 1000 Miglia Warm Up Austria in the evening at Hangar-7 on the Salzburg Airport.

ABOUT 1000 MIGLIA
The 1000 Miglia (eng. Thousand Miles) is considered the “most beautiful race in the world,”, as Enzo Ferrari defined it: from 1927 to 1957, the 1000 Miglia was a race that ran along the historic Brescia-Rome-Brescia route through the unique Italian landscape and was geared towards maximum speed. Today, the legend lives on in a regularity race for historic vehicles. Every year, around 450 participants, the majority of whom come from more than 35 countries around the world, drive their valuable historic cars along the Italian roads through cities of art as well as historic villages, accompanied by enthusiastic spectators along the route. www.1000miglia.it
